Doesn't this Mr Price dress look like an Ankara print dress? Well if you are West/Central African or know/love African prints you know what I am talking about.

Just to catch you up to speed with what Ankara is....Ankara are vibrant patterns of very rich colorful and different designs . It is mostly made of 100% cotton or cotton poly material.  Originally the wax resist dyed fabrics were exported to the Gold Coast and spread over West Africa into Central Africa and were largely produced in Nigeria.

They are commonly used to make traditional wear which I must confess I resisted wearing growing up... but surprise surprise I've now come to crave such fabric/materials in my life. This is because they've suddenly become extremely popular over time with Afrocentric fashion taking front stage internationally.

In my childhood defense, honestly, traditional wears/Ankara were not as modern, trendy and customisable as they are today. But today Ankara can be worn as every day casual outfits (not just traditional wear) and are customisable to suit the designs of the person wearing it as well as used to make other trendyh accessories such as bags, necklaces, earrings etc

Here's something I was not entirely aware about Ankara... Ankara (aka/similarly Kente in Ghana) are now primarily made in Ghana and have a strong cultural, social and economic importance.

Happy viewing and enjoy the few snapshot I took of myself before my sis' graduation ceremony. xo
