Wedding season is just around the corner and with it comes the cost of buying a veil (that is if you are the bride). Veils nowadays cost an arm and a leg, so making one for yourself if you are the bride is a worthwhile investment. This is a bird cage veil that we (Fifs, Keagile and I) made for my Sister Og for her wedding day. Here is how it was made. Happy viewing.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- Metal comb (a plastic comb can be used but it is fragile and the size of your comb is optional)
- Scissors
- Thread and Needle (preferably white thread)
- Tape Measure
- Fine mesh tulle cut to 1 inch x 28 inches/or 1 cm width x 30 cm (depending on the size of your comb more tulle may be needed to wrap around your comb)
- French Netting of 25 inches (that is able to wrap around your head)
- Ribbon (optional)
- Workable surface/ cutting board (optional)
STEP 2 | Measure your head by wrapping french net around it (NB: do not wrap net too tightly )
STEP 4 | Thread your needle.
STEP 5| Weave netting edge from diagonal edge that was cut off. (Note: weave in and through the little square netting nods)
STEP 6| Gather periodically whilst weaving.
STEP 7| Stitch and gather to the width of your comb. (You can cut off the thread and tie the end after stitching and gathering the netting but it is recommended to leave it and stitch it to the tulle gathered on your comb)
STEP 8| Stitch the net (that you gathered to roughly the same width of your comb) to the tulle gathered on the comb.
VOILA !
Beautiful sister Og (bride) on her wedding day
